Retired (2010) at substantive First Officer Rank after 21 years service incorporating the following posts;
Staff Officer (MEO9) to Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) - 2002-Nov 2009
Marine Engineering Sea Riding Officer (MESRO) responsible to Flag Officer Sea Training for the development and safe delivery of engineering training syllabi and exercises.

Planned, co-ordinated and managed on-ship and off-ship training serials in both peacetime and wartime environments.
- Co-ordinated and delivered training serials on RFA, RN, NATO and Foreign platforms.
- Designed, implemented and executed Marine Engineering and Systems Engineering departmental and platform wide inspections of administrative routines, defect management (MMS, PPM, PMS, UMMS, OPDEF, S2022 etc), High Voltage plant and Engineering plant.
- Developed and implemented the draft RFA generic and collective training syllabi in line with Military Task Lists (Maritime) as invoked by Naval Command.
- As lead Officer for High Voltage issues, managed the development, application and maintenance of the establishment’s High Voltage safe system of work in line with both Naval and Commercial best policy.
- Participated in the Royal Navy’s High Voltage working group, influencing policy and procedure.
- Member of the Fire Fighting and Damage Control in the High Voltage environment study group.
First Officer Systems Engineering / Senior Communications Officer - 2000-2002
Head of Communications department responsible for all organisations communications including, satellite, Ultra High Frequency, High Frequency, Medium Frequency, facsimile and email. Head of Systems Engineering Department, responsible for the management and maintenance of all electronic and electrical equipment throughout the platform as well as the day to day tasking of departmental Officers and Ratings. Promoted to First Officer.
Staff Officer to the Capability Management Group - 1998-2000
Directly responsible to the Group Technical Superintendent for full Refit Staff Officer duties.
- Compiled Refit Specifications for whole ship refit using a variety of Microsoft software.
- Aided Superintendent and Refit yard in ensuring the Refit period attained planned milestone dates, finishing on time and in budget.
- Undertook financial responsibility during absences of Technical Superintendent for Variation Order budgets in excess of £1m.
- Chaired formal weekly progress meetings between Refit yard senior management and Refit staff during Technical Superintendents absence.
- Negotiated with Senior Board level of sub contracted companies to ensure that contracts remained fair to all parties whilst fostering the MoD best interests.
- Liaised directly with Lloyds list authorities and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency with respect to platform certification currency, compliancy and conformation with all applicable legislation.
- Supported the Technical Superintendent in the oversight management of the Refit yard, ensuring adherence to the Refit Specification and the contracts Terms and Conditions with respect to quality, cost-effectiveness as well as Health and Safety.
- Estimated and budgeted for costs inclusive of man-hours, sub contract elements and materials.
- Supported the organisations successful application for Investors in People and ISO accreditation.
- Aided the Technical Superintendent in the design, development and implementation of a Microsoft driven database and filing system leading to a “paperless” office.
- Management and oversight of contracts and contractors, inclusive of onsite inspections.

Completed a number of Communications and Systems Engineering appointments within the RFA Flotilla in various geographical locations. Promoted from Fourth Officer to Second Officer within this period.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
A keen sportsman, I have represented
various Naval establishments at football, tennis, badminton,
cricket and table tennis. I am a FA level 1 qualified
coach and manage / coach a local youth team.
I avidly read anything remotely to do
with technology and particularly the World Wide Web. I
design and install web sites as a paid hobby as well as
designing and selling web graphics. Some of my web design
